WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis picked up six wins on the first day of the Wellesley Invitational on Friday at the Amy Batchelor '88, Trustee, Tennis Courts. The Blue are competing against Babson College, Bates College and Brandeis University.

Juniors Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) and Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) went 2-0, beating Bates 6-0 and Babson, 6-4.

Senior Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and sophomore Luna Bian (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) opened the day with a 7-5 win over Bates before dropping a close 6-4 match to Babson.

Junior Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) and first-year Kakou Narita (Tokyo, Japan) snatched a 6-3 victory versus Bates before falling in a competitive 6-2 affair with Babson.

Sophomore Praslin Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J.) and first-year Sophia Liang (Ann Arbor, Mich.) pushed past Bates, 6-4.

Liang also played Brandeis' Laura Tasias (New Rochelle, N.Y.), winning 6-0.

Senior Veda Madhusudan (Short Hills, N.J.) won 6-2 over Brandeis' first-year Miriam Chkhikvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia).

Competition continues tomorrow, starting at 9:00 AM.
