BRUNSWICK, Maine – Wellesley College golf is in seventh place after the first day of the 36-hole Polar Bear Shootout, hosted by Bowdoin College at the Brunswick Golf Club.

Today's field, which featured 10 top-25 squads from last year, was met with ideal golf conditions with sunny skies and a cool breeze. The par-73, 5,702-yard layout has five par 5s, with four on the front and one on the back. 

Wellesley, who played with Williams, Washington & Lee and Wesleyan on Saturday, recorded a team score of 301 (+9). Hamilton leads the 14-team field with a 296 (+4) and is followed by Middlebury (297, +5) one shot back. Williams, Babson and Bowdoin are two back of the lead (298, +6), while Amherst is in front of the Blue by one in sixth place (300, +8). 

Sophomore Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) led the Blue with an even par round of 73. Li had two bogeys and two birdies on the day to be in ninth place after 18 holes. 

Senior Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) shot a pair of 37s to finish 1-over (74). Lewis is tied for 13th in the 87-player field. 

Senior Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.) carded a 76 (+3) and is in a tie for 25th. Wang had a team best five birdies and shot 38 on both sides. 

First-year Caris Lee (Los Angeles, Calif.) sits in t-40th after a 5-over, 78 first round. Lee had a pair of birdies on the front and two more on the back. 

First-year Madison Soong (Chino Hills, Calif.) rounded out the Blue lineup with a 79 (+6), good for t-47th. 

Senior Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) led three Blue players who competed as individuals. Yeh is in a t-25th with a 3-over 76 after 38s on each side. Senior Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) came away with an 81 and is in t-60th. First-year Michelle Su (Clermont, Fla.) shot an 87.  

Round two begins tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM with rain in the forecast.
