MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -  The Wellesley Blue golf team is in seventh place after day one of the George Phinney Classic played at Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The annual tournament is hosted by Middlebury College. 

The Blue, who played with Williams and Bowdoin in the first round, posted a team score of 328 (+44). Hamilton leads the tournament with a score of 303 (+19) and is followed by Middlebury (310, +26), Williams (311, +27), Bowdoin (316, +32), Amherst (316, +32), and Wesleyan (317, +33). 

The field was met with tough scoring conditions once again at Ralph Myhre. The average first round score was 83.97 on the 5,816-yard, par 71 layout.

Sophomore Jessica Li (Temecula, Calif.) and senior Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) each carded a 79 (+8). The duo is tied for 17th in the 66-player field. 

First-year Caris Lee (Los Angeles, Calif.) came away with an 83 (+12) and is t-33rd. 

First-year Alice Chen (Shanghai, China) placed t-43rd after day one with an 87 (+16). 

First-year Madison Soong (Chino Hills, Calif.) shot a 44 on the front and the back for an 88 (+17). Soong is in a tie for 49th place. 

Senior Kaurvaki Bajpai (Chantilly, Va.), who played as an individual, is in a tie for 43rd after 18 holes with an 87 (+16). 

The second round will begin at 9:30 AM on Sunday.
