BIDDEFORD, Maine – Wellesley College field hockey was edged by the University of New England, 1-0, in a non-conference road game on Tuesday night.
The lone goal of the contest came when the Nor'Easters (3-4) took advantage of a penalty corner less than six minutes into the second frame. Seniors Isabel Culver (Oakland, Maine) and Kate Kelso (Skowhegan, Maine) combined to set up sophomore Ella Reeves (Harwich, Mass.) who scored her second goal of the season.
Sophomore
Katelyn Hurt (Dallas, Texas) finished with a pair of saves for Wellesley. First-year Riley Curtin (Hopkinton, Mass.) stopped all three shots faced for the shutout.
The Blue (1-6) had a 12-6 advantage in shots, but each team had three on goal. Junior
Gabi Chen (Mountain View, Calif.) led all players with six total shots and two on target.
Wellesley comes back to Butler Stadium on Saturday, September 26 for a 12:00 PM showdown with Wheaton College. UNE stays home against Johnson & Wales University at 1:00 PM that same day.
