WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- All five Wellesley College golfers
knocked at least five strokes off of their round one scores, as the
Blue moved up a place to finish 4th overall at the Williams Fall
Classic. The two-day event was held at the Taconic Golf Club (par
71, 5826 yards).
After combining for a day-one total of 369, the Blue shot 27
strokes better on day two, posting a score of 711. The
second-day surge pushed Wellesley past rival Mount Holyoke, who
finished one stroke behind with a 712. Host Williams took the team
title with a 663, while Amherst took second with a 665.
Middlebury rounded out the top three with a two day total of
671.
Senior standout Kim
Eaton once again led the way for the Blue. After
shooting an 81 on day one, she carded the low round for day two
with a 76, placing her second overall in the field of 48 golfers.
Alexandra Groetsema of Williams took individual honors with a
two day total of 149 (71-78).
Sophomore Cassandra
Tavolarella and first-year Alexandra
Fuiks each tallied rounds of 88 on day two.
Tavolarella finished tied for 20th overall, while Fuiks ended
the day in 23rd place. Junior Alexis
Kelleher knocked nine strokes off of her first round,
shooting a 90 to finish in 27th. Rounding out the Wellesley
contributors, Lindsey
Shephardson was 13 strokes better on day two, carding
a 96.
The Blue will compete in their final fall event this upcoming
weekend, as Wellesley hosts the second annual Ann S. Batchelder
Invitational at Nehoiden Golf Club.
