Golf Hosts Ann S. Batchelder Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. – With one round in the books, Williams College holds the lead at the 2011 Ann S. Batchelder Golf Invitational, hosted by Wellesley College. Now in its fourth year, the tournament is held at the par-72, 5,860-yard Nehoiden Golf Course on the Wellesley campus.

Williams recorded a team total of 322 to sit in first, while Amherst is 12 strokes behind with a total of 334. Vassar is in third with a 344, while Merrimack is fifth with a 353. Rounding out the team scores, Wellesley is in fifth with a 371, while Mount Holyoke sits in sixth with a 376.

Individually, Georgiana Salant of Williams recorded a 73 to hold the lead. Mount Holyoke's Madi Mendiola is three strokes off the lead, carding a round of 76. Amherst's Elaine Lin recorded a day one 78 to round out the top three individuals.

Host Wellesley's top finisher from day one is first-year Alexandria Lee, who shot an 86, sitting in a tie for 12th overall. Junior Michelle Cho and sophomore Alexandra Fuiks are tied for 16th, each recording a round of 90.

The tournament continues tomorrow morning with the second and final round beginning at 8:30am.
