Blue Golf Ties for 8th at Williams Fall Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wellesley College golf team moved up one spot to finish tied for eighth place at the 2012 Williams College Fall Invitational.

The Blue shaved 18 strokes from their day one total to finish with a two-day score of 708. Wellesley tied fellow Liberty League member, Vassar, while finishing just behind two other Liberty League foes in NYU (6th- 695) and St. Lawrence (7th- 703).

Host Williams won the team title with a 641, followed by Ithaca with a 660. The Ephs' Georgiana Salant took medalist honors, carding a two-day total of 144, while Ithaca's Sharon Li took second in the 69-golfer field.

Individually, Wellesley sophomore Alexandria Lee led the way with a 22nd place finish, improving by seven strokes to shoot a day-two 82. Junior Alexandra Fuiks knocked 10 strokes from her day one total, carding an 81 to finish in 23rd place.

Blue first year Bristol Gunderson also bettered her day one total, dropping nine strokes to shoot an 85 and finish n 37th place. Rounding out the Wellesley golfers, first-year Lei Wei and senior Young Hsu finished in 44th and 55th places.

Wellesley golf returns to the links next weekend, hosting the 2012 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational. The two day tournament will be hosted at the Nehoiden Golf Course on the campus of Wellesley College.
