BRONX, N.Y. - The Wellesley College golf team sits in sixth place out of 13 schools after day one of the 2012 NYU Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 5,918-yard Pelham Bay Golf Course.
Wellesley combined for a +53 total of 341, placing the Blue behind front-runner Williams (1st- 312) and new Liberty League rival Vassar (5th- 327). The Blue sit ahead of other Liberty League members NYU (7th- 242), St. Lawrence (7th- 242), William Smith (11th- 374), Mount Holyoke (12th- 381) and Union (13th- 415).
The Blue had two individuals rank in the top 20 after one round, as sophomore Alexandria Lee sits tied for 16th and junior Alexandra Fuiks ranked tied for 20th. Lee carded a round of 82, while Fuiks is one back, after recording an 83.
Wellesley first-years Lei Wei and Bristol Gunderson were the next two Blue finishers, with Wei shooting an 86 (34th) and Gunderson adding a 90 (40th). Rounding out the action, sophomore Michelle Brann shot a 94 (50th).
Action at the NYU Invitational continues tomorrow with the final round being hosted at the Split Rock Golf Course.
