Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass.- The Wellesley College volleyball team ran its winning streak to 11 games, opening the MIT Invitational with wins over Simmons College and Colby College on Friday night at Simmons. The victories improve the Blue to 11-0 on the season.
Wellesley came out on top of a tight match against Simmons, topping the Sharks with set scores of 29-27, 25-12, 21-25, and 27-25.
The Blue were led by another stellar performance from sophomore Sydney Carfagno, who recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs, while also adding four blocks. First-year Courtney Lang recorded nine kills in the contest, while seniors Jessica Mullen and Isabel Custodio recorded kill totals of eight and seven to round out the offense.
Custodio also dished out 29 assists with nine total digs, while junior Hilary Ayers picked out 16 assists. Rounding out the box score against Simmons, senior Vivian Hu racked up 13 digs, while junior Kellyn O'Brady recorded five service aces.
In the match against Colby, Wellesley came out on top, handing the Mules their first loss of the 2012 season. The Blue picked up the win with set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, and 25-17.
Carfagno again led the Blue, racking up 14 kills with just one error, hitting .394 in the contest. Custdios picked up nine kills with 33 assists, while first-year Mikey Jackson-Smith had a career-high of nine kills in the victory.
Also for Wellesley, Ayers picked up 14 assists, while junior Traci Hamanaka led the defense with 13 digs. Sophomore Caitlin Laughlin had a solid game with seven blocks and five kills on the evening.
Wellesley volleyball returns to the MIT Invitational on Saturday, taking on Newbury College and Roger Williams at Endicott.
