Wellesley Golf Hangs Tough Against D-I Competition

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College golf team hung tough against Division-I competition at a home tri-match that featured the Blue taking on Merrimack and Holy Cross. The event was hosted at Wellesley's par-72, 5,838-yard Nehoiden Golf Club.

Merrimack shot the lowest score, combining for a 314 to finish first. Holy Cross finished second at the event, shooting a team total of 342. Wellesley was close behind, recording a 358 despite having to count all four players who competed.

Leading the way for the Blue, first-year Lei Wei recorded a round of 80 to rank fifth overall in the 14-player field. Senior Alexandra Fuiks finished second for the Blue and ninth overall, shooting a round of 88. Rounding out the Wellesley individuals, first-year Jacqueline Lu shot a 94 in her first collegiate competition, rankign 11th, while junior Alexandria Lee finished with a 96 to rank 13th. 

Merrimack had two of the top three finishers at the event, with Jessica Ngui earning medalist honors by shooting a 75. Merrimack's Ali Reed finished second with a round of 76, while Holy Cross's top finisher, Marissa Cameron, ranked third with a 78. 

Wellesley golf returns to action next weekend, at the two-day NYU Invitational. The event is being hosted at the Bronx's Pelham Bay Golf Course.
