Blue Golf Ties for Fourth at George Phinney Classic; Wang Wins Individual Competition

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – First year Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.) won the individual competition as Wellesley College golf tied for fourth at the George Phinney Classic hosted by Middlebury at the Par-71, 6007 yard Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The Blue were only four strokes off of a program record with a score of 306 on Sunday. 

Wang carded a 75 (+4) on Sunday to tie for first place with a score of 152 (77-75) for the weekend. Middlebury junior Audrey Tir (Winnetka, Ill.) also shot a 152 (80-72) to tie for first. Wang won a playoff hole to capture the tournament victory.

Williams won the team event with a score of 628 (311-317). Hamilton and New York U. tied for second with scores of 629. Wellesley and Amherst tied for fourth with a score of 633.

First year Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) had a top-five finish, tying for fourth with a score of 154 (78-76). Classmates Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) (165 - 88-77), Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) (166 - 84-82), and Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) (170 - 92-78) rounded out the Blue score. Senior Marilyn Fang (Beijing, China) shot a 167 (84-83) playing as an individual.

Wellesley golf competes in the Williams Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club next Saturday-Sunday, September 23-24.
