NEW ORLEANS, La. – Wellesley College track & field's Distance Medley Relay team of seniors Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.), Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.), sophomore Leeya Rice (Closter, N.J.) and first-year Sophia Trabuco (Rochester, Minn.) have received the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honor for the East Region's indoor track & field season.
The top-8 individuals in each event from each region on the year-end Descending Order Lists earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-8 relay teams. The regions used for this award – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.
The Wellesley quartet ran a 13:01.19 at the Peter de Villiers Cup, defeating Smith, Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr to earn first in the competition.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents thousands of coaching members encompassing NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA and NJCAA, as well as a number of state high school coaches associations. The USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.
